Freeski Development Team

The Freeski Development Team is designed for athletes who are interested in refining their all mountain skiing and as an introduction to tricks in the terrain park safely. This team is primarily for 3rd and 4th graders who have at least two years of skiing with a coach and 4 years in the sport. The focus of Freeski Development will be for athletes to build confidence and skills in a fun, safe and positive environment. Coaches will focus on safety, decision making, teamwork and sportsmanship, building confidence skiing all types of terrain, jumping on skis and exposing athletes to the possibilities of freestyle competitions. Dryland training for gymnastics is available and encouraged.

Skill Development Focus Emphasis on skiing all terrain with guided free skiing and drills. Freeski Devo will build on fundamental skiing skills and body position (athletic stance, leaning forward vs. backseat), achieving consistent and symmetrical parallel turns with rhythm and timing and pole plants (keeping hands up). We will introduce all mountain skiing that explores different skiing techniques in varied terrain, line choice and switch skiing. Introduction to trick development such body positioning, timing, landing and safety.  90% free skiing 10% drills.
Skill Requirements At least 2 years skiing with a coach. Four years in the sport
Competition Introduction to Fun Competitions such as Wednesday Night Lights @ Snow King park, Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort freeski comps
Schedule/Sessions Saturdays or Sundays 9-3p for 15 weeks Dec 6th-Mar 15th
Program Fees One day $599, Two day $999
Ski Passes Pass prices are not included in program fees. Grand Targhee Jr. Passes must be purchased directly through Grand Targhee Resort.
Transportation Not included. May be available for Wednesday Night Lights at Snow King or comps at JHMR and GT. Athletes are encouraged to take the Grand Targhee shuttle.
Equipment
  • Skis: one pair of skis. Nose height with a variation based on height, weight and skill.Boots: proper fit with soft, even, forward flex
  • Protection: helmet required
  • Poles: with pole tip in snow arm should be 90 degrees

Competition/Travel Expenses Not included in program fees.
Work Deposit and Family Participation $100 work deposit. Positive parental support is essential. Families are encouraged to get involved with club activities.
