Alpine Development Race Team

All the fun components of Alpine Development, but with an introduction to race fundamentals, particularly the Giant Slalom. Athletes in this program are typically 1st -3rd graders who have at least 2 years skiing with a coach and want more experience ski racing. Athletes who have at least 1 year of coaching or ski instruction can be invited to join. Athletes are grouped according to speed, social needs and skill. At least 80% of the time will be spent free skiing. Emphasis will be on fun, play, basic agility, balance and coordination with an incorporation of activities that develop explosiveness and general endurance. Guided free skiing and drills are an integral part of development.

Ages 7-9/U8
Skill Development/Focus All-mountain safety, having a consistent stance while maintaining a balanced athletic position on skis; distributing weight evenly between both skis; and an introduction to the basic tactical elements of racing. Introduction to carving, use of upper and lower body separation for angulation and pole plant.
Races Athletes are encouraged to compete in 3 races per winter. The Club Series are local, inexpensive, fun races that are a great introduction to ski racing
Schedule/Sessions Saturdays and Sunday for 16 weeks, Nov. 29 – March 15, 9-3p; mid week training available
Program Fees $750 for day and 1/2 (half day Sat. full day Sun.) $599 for Sunday only
Ski Passes Grand Targhee Jr. Passes must be purchased directly through Grand Targhee Resort. Pass prices are not included in program fees.
Transportation Available for race travel
Equipment
  • Skis: One pair of freeskis at head height with a variation based on height, weight and skill level.
  • Boots: soft, even forward flex for ankle movement to facilitate a balanced, athletic stance.
  • Protection:  helmet and goggles required. Athletes may need shin/arm protection
  • Poles: : standard length = forearm horizontal with pole tip in snow as skill level develops

License Not required for Club Series races. USSA $80 for USSA/Intermountain Division (IMD) races. IMD $20
Race Travel Expenses Not included in program fees. Local Club Series Races are typically $30.
Work Deposit and Family Participation $100 work deposit per family. Families are encouraged to volunteer for race events.
